Fourth Grade Language Arts
We started off with a bang!! A grade full of book lovers and writers has emerged! So far this year we have learned about visualization, which is creating mind pictures that aid us in understanding a book that we are reading. We practiced with The Velveteen Rabbit. We then learned about making connections. Text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world are our three types of connections. The Lorax by Dr. Seuss helped us understand and practice our connections. This week we are learning about determining importance. We are pinpointing the main idea and supporting details through nonfiction text vocabulary. Rats! is our nonfiction text that is aiding us this week.
In writing so far, we have learned to write friendly letters. We wrote letters to the fifth graders. We have also been working on a writing unit about responding to an author and his/her works. In social studies we are learning about the geography of Florida. For our first lesson the class made posters to present to the rest of the class. We spent a day learning and remembering September 11th. We write letters to soldiers, police officers, and firemen. We have started off strong, and we hope to continue that streak!!!
